Coach Carter
Coach Carter (2005)

Netflix Synopsis: Samuel L. Jackson plays the titular, controversial coach, a hardliner who firmly believes that scholarship and a sense of ethics go hand in hand with excellence on the basketball court. A man of his convictions, Coach Carter benches his undefeated team of high schoolers when they turn in poor academic grades (much to the chagrin of the players’ parents and many of his fellow teachers). Co-stars Ashanti. Thomas Carter directs.

Review: This was a great story based on true events. I liked the movie because it was not your typical underdog sports team coming back to be the top guys. Instead there was a whole other story running parallel to it, which seemed to be more important to the overall film. Samuel L. Jackson plays a coach who does things differently, he requires more out of his team academically than the school expects of them. It shows the breakdown in the way that schools set much lower goals and expectations than should be set. It was a fantastic story that I enjoyed a great deal. We watched the special features on the disc and it turns out that the story was not changed, the events in the movie are actually what went on.
